Kampong Dedaun
Let’s talk about a personal favourite of mine.
Kampong Dedaun is a beach located around Sijuk road, containing a restaurant along with a few other services visitors can enjoy. I tend to go to this beach often, so I grew to love it despite it being one of the beaches located in more rural areas, and a relatively new one too.
Here you can find a restaurant serving a variety of traditional Belitungnese dishes that guests can enjoy, such as Gangan, a beef or fish based dish that’s served in a special soup using turmeric. A personal favourite of mine. The best part is the fish they serve, fried, steamed, and in other ways including traditional dishes. Since it’s located so conveniently, they always taste fresh and worth your money, although it may take some time to make, I feel like it’s worth it after a fun day hanging out at the beach. They also offer a guest house for those who would like to stay overnight and have a more authentic experience with their visit. Although the area around the beach is quite rural, they also offer a local convenience store along with a local coffee shop called Kopi KD where visitors can relax and immerse themselves in the peaceful atmosphere, especially during the night time.
When I was younger, I tend to enjoy collecting seashells and going kayaking around here, the beach is simple with less rocks around, so it’s easy to navigate your way through it. What I like the most about this beach is that it’s enjoyable if you’re one to want a relaxing time over something more active. It has a slower, more relaxing atmosphere, a simple beach layout with not much objects around, unlike certain more popular areas that are crowded with restaurants and shops. The waves are quite gentle, which I personally think is ideal for their kayaking service since it creates less of a learning curve, it’s possible for you to go pretty far out without having any issues, just paddling through the gorgeous sea and sky with no interruptions.
I especially love watching the sun set here since there isn’t much people around, and the view itself is clear, simple, yet gorgeous. I mentioned kayaking before, though I feel like the experience gets better once you go out when the sun is setting. The clouds are colorful, the air is clean, you can hear music in the distance from the fancy hotel next door. The sun sets in the western side of the beach, creating a nicely composed view especially for taking pictures, since visitors can catch a view of the sun setting alongside the beach. More so than anything though, I especially love watching the clouds in the sunset. They’re especially ethereal in such a relaxing mood, especially in this beach during that time of day.
